Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, and his wife have made a donation of 2.5 million USD to a campaign to legalise same-sex marriage in Washington state, USA. This may be the biggest contribution for this cause.
Washington filed Referendum 74 (R-74) to approve or reject a law that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state in February, 2012. On June 6th, same-sex marriage opponents submitted enough signatures to block the legalisation of gay marriage. The referendum is scheduled to appear on the ballot in the general election on November 6th, 2012. Steve Ballmer of Microsoft and co-founder Bill Gates have each donated $100,000 to support the campaign for gay marriage. Starbucks and Nike, Inc. also support the law.
